Social skills training to help them play and make friends

For a young child, playing with others is a whole world of learning. Crucially, they learn how their actions affect others, and vice versa.

To some children, socialisation comes naturally; others may need a bit more guidance in navigating these social concepts that are new to them. This can affect their confidence and their enjoyment of playtime.

Social skills training with the help of our paediatric occupational therapists can help with concepts such as, but not limited to:

Why is social skills training important for children?

There are many different reasons why a child might struggle with life skills and other everyday routines, compared to their peers.

The causes can be neurological, developmental, environmental, emotional, or even physiological in nature.

Even children with the same developmental disorders might struggle for different reasons. One child with ADHD might struggle with daily hygiene routines because of executive dysfunction, while another child with ADHD might have trouble with certain tasks because of sensory processing disorder.

This is why therapy for children cannot be cookie-cutter; therapy has to be tailored to the child's personality and unique circumstances in order to be effective.
